Founded in 2011 by the three Hendler brothers, Jack, Eric, and Sam, Jack's Abby Brewing is the culmination of decades of Hendler entrepreneurship and ambition.
During their childhood, Jack, Eric, and Sam watched their grandfather, father and uncle transform the Saxony Ice Company into an industry leader. As they grew older, the brothers spent their summers learning the business by working from the bottom up. Ownership of Saxony Ice Company would eventually leave the family. However, the brothers were left with a strong sense of the potential of a small business to thrive under the stewardship of committed family members and loyal employees. This belief would grow stronger over the years and become a driving force behind the creation of Jack's Abby Brewing.
Although Jack's Abby Brewing was formally founded in January of 2011, the ideas behind it date back over ten years when Jack was still in college experimenting with home brews. Since then Jack has learned a bit more about beer, earning his diploma in brewing technology in May of 2007. After several years as head brewer at a popular Boston brew pub, Jack's entrepreneurial spirit took hold and the Hendlers began brainstorming. Now, their brews are consistently winning awards and gaining attention.
The Hendler farm is a constant source of fresh, local ingredients for their brews. All beers included in the annual "Mom & Pop's Harvest Series" use ingredients grown right on the farm. The Wet Hop Lager uses family hops and the Pumpkin Crop Lager uses seasonal pumpkins and squash.
The farm is not only a source of ingredients though, it is also a source of inspiration. Every year Jack builds upon the harvests of previous years, using the spark of local ingredients to create exceptional seasonal beers.
"Jack's Abby Brewing" is a nod to Jack's wife, Abby, and also to the traditions of the European monks who handcrafted beer in their abbeys. The brothers are inspired by that tradition of brewing which emphasizes quality local ingredients, mindful labor, and great recipes to create delicious, authentic beer. Read more about the lagers!
